The 22nd Annual ISAZ Conference will focus on evidence-based approaches to the study of human-animal interactions. Furthering knowledge, understanding, and practice in this area is critical to enhancing the scientific credibility of the field and defining its future progress. The conference will bring together top researchers, professionals, and industry leaders. Our interdisciplinary program, which consists of both oral and poster presentations, will be of interest to scientists, scholars, and professionals working in the field of anthrozoology and related disciplines including neuroscience, psychology, anthropology, sociology, and veterinary and human medicine.

INFORMATION ON PLENARY SPEAKERS AND SPECIAL EVENTS

Dr. Steve Zawistowski, Science Advisor, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals: Dr. Zawistowski is an adjunct Professor at the University Of Illinois College Of Veterinary Medicine and a certified applied animal behaviorist, chairing the Animal Behavior Society’s Board of Professional Certification. Since 1988, Dr. Zawistowski has also been involved in many aspects involving animal welfare involving pets, zoo and laboratory animals at the ASPCA. Dr. Zawistowski is a well known speaker and guest on television and radio on education, animal behavior and animal welfare issues. He has hosted the ASPCA Pet Check segments on PBS, and authored, edited and consulted on over 20 books on animals and pet care, including Animal Shelter Medicine for Veterinarians and Staff (2004).
Dr. Louise Hawkley, Research Scientist, National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago: Dr. Hawkley’s early research was funded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, and explored the psychological and physiological correlates of loneliness in young adults. She is currently funded by the National Institute on Aging in several longitudinal multi-disciplinary studies of the sociological, psychological, religious, genetic, and physiological aspects of social isolation and loneliness in young to middle- and older-age adults.

CONFERENCE VENUE AND ACCOMMODATIONS
The conference will take place at the Embassy Suites Chicago - Downtown/Lakefront, located at 511 North Columbus Drive, Chicago, Illinois.
HOTEL ROOMS: We have reserved a block of 90 suites at the conference hotel. The guaranteed hotel rate is $169 single occupancy, with $20 for each additional person. Depending on room type, up to 6 people could share a room. Rooms will be reserved until 17 June 2013. After that, the group rate will be based on availability. Note that the guaranteed group rate is available for rooms booked from July 17 to July 19 (i.e., two nights). It is recommended that you book your hotel early in order to take advantage of the special group rate.
The group rate is exclusive of state and hotel occupancy taxes. Included in the group rate is free in-room wireless internet, complimentary breakfast buffet, complimentary manager’s reception from 5-7pm nightly, and free use of all facilities, including an indoor pool & Jacuzzi open until midnight, a 24-hour fitness center, and a 24-hour business center.
